70 years of empowering students
The ISIC card was first created by students for students in 1953 and the Nordic and Dutch student organizations played a key role in forging the foundations of ISIC student card.
From the early beginnings of ISIC, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has been involved in ISIC, leading to official endorsement in 1968 with UNESCO recognizing the ISIC card as the only internationally accepted proof of full-time student status and a unique document encouraging cultural exchange and international understanding.
Today ISIC student card and the ISIC Association are endorsed by hundreds of governments, universities and student organizations such as the EU and ESU – European Student Union.
In the Nordics and the Netherlands, ISIC has since its beginning been represented by KILROY, the largest student travel agency in Northern Europe, along with its predecessors, the Nordic Student Travel agencies originally owned by the national student unions.
